Isaura Ancient City - Zengibar Castle

Zengibar Castle, one of the most important examples of Roman-era stonemasonry, is notable for its theater, triumphal arch, church, aqueduct, and similar architectural structures. Entering through the southern gate, visitors following the main street reach the basilica, the city's largest building, which later served as a church. Some of the city's stones bear numerous high-relief decorations, including wreaths, helmets, shin guards, swords, shields, and arrows. The large stones cut from the summit mine remain a mystery. The stones used in the construction of the castle's 3.5-meter-thick walls were brought from the summit quarry. The precise cutting of the large rectangular stones thousands of years ago remains a mystery. The castle, situated at a strategic location due to its commanding position, is known to have been used by the Hittites and Persians before the Romans. The ancient city of Isaura, which housed 10,000 people during the Roman period, is described as the "Ephesus of Konya" for its historical assets, most of which are underground.
